This week's book:
Artemis
By Andy Weir
This week's book brought to you by my sweetie! I bought this novel for my husband for his birthday or Christmas last year, I can't remember to be honest. He had loved The Martian just as much as I had, which was the author's first book. I asked him a few times if he wanted to read it sometime, but I honestly think he wanted to wait until our little one was born. The hubby reads to her when I nurse her sometimes. It's a fun way for them to bond because he can't actually nurse so snuggling with us and reading is a pretty good idea.
I'm going to be honest, I kept falling asleep when the hubby was reading. Not because the book was boring or bad, but by golly, I am so flipping tired this time around post pregnancy. This little girl wakes up a few times a night, and because of the other two, I don't really have time to shower, let alone take a nap. They say sleep when the baby sleeps, so when my sweet hubs would start to read and the baby would start falling asleep, so would I. I might need to add that my husband's voice is super soothing and calm which can cause anyone to become chill and want to sleep. I might also add that we as parents don't co-sleep or do I sleep when I'm nursing. With my mom being a social worker for all those years, she heard too many horror stories of people rolling over on their babies in their sleep, or being too drunk or high to notice they smothered their baby or even bumper pads smothering babies.
But onward to the book, it's about a colony on the moon. The main character is a smuggler and a bit of a troublemaker, until she is hired to do a job for a local businessman (which gets her into deeper trouble). The author knows his science and engineering so it's all very technical, but fun as well. It's nowhere as good as The Martian, but it's still a fun read. I would recommend the novel.
