Year 5, week 21: Seven Days in June

This week's book:
Seven Days in June
By Tia Williams

This week's book is for an online book discussion that I do sometimes. I think I have made it once to the monthly Zoom meetings, and let's be honest, I'll probably not make it to this one either.

I really had no idea about this book before I started listening to it. The novel follows two black authors that had an amazing week together when they were in high school, and then their paths cross again when they are in their thirties. The book switches back and forth between those two times in their lives. As youths they are struggling with different hard hitting issues when they originally fall in love. Due to some misunderstanding and a lot of drama, their relationship ends. As adults, one is a mother and a successful YA author about vampires, and the other is a recovering alcoholic that is elusive and writes very deep works.

I can't give away much more than that, but I was very pleasantly surprised and actually liked this book very much.

Year 5, week 20: Slewfoot

This week's book:
Slewfoot: A Tale of Bewitchery
By Gerald Brom

I listened to Krampus around Christmas last month. This week's book is by the same author as Krampus. When I was reading the book in a buddy read, everyone was raving about Slewfoot being even better than the book we were reading at the time. Since I enjoyed Krampus so much I ended up buying two other books by Brom.

I started Slewfoot right at the beginning of the month and it took me forever to actually read it. The novel is very dark and a dense book. It takes place in 1666 in a Puritan settlement. A young bride from England is trying to fit into her new home, but keeps struggling with all the rules she is supposed to follow. Weird, dark things begin to happen, and she ends up making deals with a goat man.

The book wasn't bad; I just didn't like it as much as Krampus. I might just not have been in the right mood to read it.

Year 5, week 19: The Love Hypothesis

This week's book:
The Love Hypothesis
By Ali Hazelwood

I picked this as my Book of the Month book in September and finally got around to reading it earlier this week. I wish I wouldn't have waited so long to read it. I originally started it as an audiobook and then ended up reading my physical copy.

The story is about two geniuses at a university that don't have the best social skills. They end up pretending to be in a relationship and chaos ensues. I personally very much enjoyed the book because I myself am married to a very handsome man that, like the male character in the book, don't know how truly amazing that they are.

Heads up that there are some naughty bits near the end of the book, but it's very well written. The sequel, or whatever this author's next book is, doesn't come out until around late August, which seems like forever from now!

I would very much recommend this book if you want to read a good romance in a STEM setting.

Year 6, week 22: The Lincoln Highway

This week's book: The Lincoln Highway: A Novel By Amor Towles This was one of Book of the Month's end of the year finalists for 2022...
