High Achiever: The Shocking True Story of One Addict's Double Life
By Tiffany Jenkins
First of all, this is almost a week late and I'm truly sorry for that. My sweet husband and I went to Chicago for the weekend for a late Valentine's day/PTSD from many Valentine's days of the past. But anyway this week's book was not at all what I thought it was going to be like. Who has watched Juggling the Jenkins on Facebook or YouTube? The vlogs are by a mom that is always funny and uplifting. My personal favorites of her videos are one having to do with her buying some clothes at the mall and the other one is about being step parents. When I found out she had written a book I ordered it off of eBay litckity quick. (Barnes and Noble didn't carry it so I couldn't use my gift cards from Christmas).
I start reading the book right off the bat and guess what? The whole book is about her road to recovery (mostly about her time in jail.) I can be honest here that I really thought the book would be a silly mom themed book like her videos are. I knew beforehand that she had struggled with addiction. I had seen her videos and I had thought I knew her story, but I had no clue that was all the book was going to be about. Now I don't want to get in trouble here but I don't have a great track record with addicts. I know it's a disease and people need help, and I want all of the people who suffer from these addictions to get help. I want the war on drugs not to be a thing because I don't want anyone to suffer in any way. But I can also say that I have been lied to. The one who has had to help the loved ones pick themselves up when addiction has taken their loved one away from them. I have been the one that Christmas presents and borrowed items have been sold to buy drugs. I know it's a stumbling block for me and I should just get past it, because all addicts are not the same, I know this.
I think this book is insanely well written and would be great for someone trying to get their life back after getting away from addiction or someone trying to learn how someone could use everyone around them. But personally if I had known it was only about her addition I probably wouldn't have bought it.
